What Exactly Is a Faux Finish?

Last updated 3 years ago

Faux finishing painting techniques have been used since ancient times to replicate the appearance of certain building materials for decorative purposes. A faux finish uses paint to make your walls or other features appear as though they are made from natural stone or wood. The benefits of faux finishing is that it is a more cost-effective way to achieve the look of expensive materials and finishes that enhances the look of your home or office building. Your painter will use one of two techniques to create a faux finish on your walls. The glaze technique combines glazing and paint to achieve a translucent finish when the project is complete. Alternatively, a plaster technique creates a classical, Old World finish with a stucco- or stone-like texture. Your painter can provide examples and help you select the best faux finishes to achieve the look you want.
