Enjoy Your Newly Refinished Deck with These Decorating Ideas

Last updated 4 years ago

A refinished deck can really bring out your backyard and help you make the most of your outdoor real estate, but everyone has different design preferences. Some homeowners may be fine with nothing more than a grill and some patio furniture, while others may want to keep the attention around a fire pit or fountain. Whatever your preferences are, consider these decorating tips to make the most out of your refinished deck from Browder Painting Company:

Zoning
If your back yard is large enough, it can be helpful to create different “zones” such as a dining area, grilling area, pool area, etc. (Hint: Be sure to keep seating upwind of grills or fire pits!) Patio furniture is a must-have for decks, but don’t be so quick to throw out old furniture. Simply repainting or adding some new cushions can extend the life of your favorite pieces without unnecessary expense.

Landscaping
Give your guests something to look at and update your yard to complement your newly refinished deck. There are several species of noninvasive climbing vines that can provide plenty of wall cover and unify the deck with the rest of the yard. You can also set a few container plants around the deck to keep it from looking barren.

Shading and Lighting
Unless you want to limit your deck time to daylight hours, it’s essential to set up some outdoor lighting. Sticking with just a few patio lights can create more shadows than light, so it’s worthwhile to consider your options for path lighting or even accent lighting on large shrubs and trees. Similarly, it’s important to set up some shade to block out harsh sunlight and keep your deck comfortable all day long.
